One of the things I enjoy most about publishing Macaroni KID North Sound is finding out about the amazing community organizations in our area.
I first found Jaguars Community Organization (JCO) while searching for local events to add to our calendar. After following them on social media and sharing their events with our readers, I wanted to learn more.
I reached out to ask if it would be okay to write an article about them, and Kamilah got back to me right away. We met for coffee last week, and we had a wonderful conversation. I learned so much more about this amazing organization, and I'm already planning to attend one of their upcoming open gym nights with my daughter later this month so I can see it all in action for myself.
Jaguars Community Organization was founded by Aaron MacCoy, owner of MacCoy Home Solutions, after his daughters played on a volleyball team called the Jaguars. When the season ended, Aaron continued getting the girls together with their teammates, extended family, and neighbors. As time went on, more and more kids started showing up each week, and he realized there was a real need for this type of weekly open gym in the community.
Today, JCO offers a free weekly open gym for youth ages 11–15, providing sports, mentorship, and opportunities to serve the community.
It is a place where kids are welcome.
A place where they can play.
A place where they belong.
A place where they can grow.
There are no fees, no barriers, and no tryouts.
Parents are welcome to drop off their child or stay to watch and even participate. Siblings are always welcome too, making it a fun evening for the whole family.
JCO offers much more than just an open gym. They recently partnered with Seattle Credit Union's Lynnwood Branch to teach kids about finances—how to save money, why it's important, and how small steps today can make a big difference in the future.
Their mission is to:
- Create safe spaces for kids to move and play.
- Build confidence through positive mentorship.
- Strengthen neighborhoods through community service.
They help youth grow through free sports, mentorship, and service opportunities that are open to every child, with no barriers to participation.
Behind every event is an amazing group of volunteers—coaches, mentors, parents, and community leaders—who give their time to make sure every child feels welcomed and encouraged. From Aaron and the core volunteers to former participants who have come back to help coach, the Jaguars family is built on servant leadership, consistency, care, and the belief that every kid matters.
After meeting with Kamilah, I'm even more excited to experience JCO for myself. My daughter and I will be attending an open gym later this month, and I can't wait to come back and tell you all about it!
