January is the official favorite month of the year in our household. All the cleaning and organization that is set off by first taking down the Christmas tree and closing the door on the year that has passed, is the pinnacle of creation for what we set to achieve over the year ahead. I find that there’s something magical about getting things organized in your home, office and head! |
January is the perfect time to embrace that magic. Having things organized will allow you the space required to create a vision and build a plan to achieve your goals.
To get started on my yearly goal creation I like to reflect on everything that has transpired over the past year; the goals that I have accomplished, and the ones I didn’t. I like to think about what I could have done better if things hadn’t turned out the way I expected. Then I reflect on how the lessons I have learned through the triumphs and failures will help in the crafting of my goals for the rest of the year.
I craft my goals and my family’s goals for the year in four primary subject areas:
- Family
- Health and Fitness
- Education
- Wealth and Investments
Cultivating your vision for an ideal lifestyle never goes out of fashion, no matter what your age, life stage or situation. Here are 5 tips you can use to help you to stay accountable to your goals:
- Start by understanding your values and build goals out from there. Understanding what motivates you and why will help you to stick to your goals when things become tough and you get discouraged.
- Set a date you'd like to accomplish those goals. This makes it easier to take action daily.
- Use your resources at hand! Find a friend, family member or goal tracker app that can help you stay committed.
- Create habits that lead you to fulfil your daily goals, and ditch ones that lead you astray. I like to create a daily To-do list first thing in the morning before I start my day to help keep me on track.
- Should you fall off track, don't be so hard on yourself that you quit. Find out what lead to this set back and how you can overcome this challenge in the future if it should happen again. Don't be afraid to start over! Failure can be our greatest lesson.
January is our chance to start off fresh. So, get organized and make those plans!
